Apartment: The Sequel

We found out that our apartment in the DR has been switched. We're now in a two-bedroom apartment on the second floor of a building. Our apartment has nice big windows to let the breeze flow through! Another teacher from our school lives on the third floor.

There is Music in the Air

Brian had his first violin lesson! Hikari was willing to teach him some things when we visited with her and Jim in Kalamazoo last week. Brian learned how to hold the violin and the bow. He even played along with Hikari after he learned some notes and finger positions. We won't be taking the violin along to the DR, so Brian will have to wait quite a while to get his next lesson.

Internet Craziness

We're sitting in Panera with our laptops trying to catch up on e-mailing and other things. Our internet service provider mistakenly cut off our internet service two weeks early, and then forgot to put in the order to get us reconnected after we called. Now we're in a very frustrated holding pattern.

We leave Grand Rapids on Saturday so we've been very busy finishing up details at home. We're getting very eager to get to the DR to see our school and our apartment!

Time is Flying By

On Tuesday we mailed two boxes of our things to the Dominican Republic. Then on Wednesday we started our orientation sessions with Christian Reformed World Missions. We're covering a lot of great topics: Staying Healthy, Cultural Transition, Practical Help for Powerpoint Presentations, Personal Security and much more. We're learning a lot!

Dominican Republic, Here We Come

Our tickets to Santiago have been purchased! We're flying on Friday, August 8, from Indianapolis to Chicago, then to Miami, and finally to Santiago. Pray for safety. Also pray that our luggage will arrive in Santiago when we do.

Prairie City Wedding

Last Thursday we headed out to Iowa. We had a great visit with the VanKootens and the Harms in Pella. We even had a tour of the town on Friday morning. Then we headed out to the farm to see where Brenda would be living after the wedding. On Saturday we attended the wedding and the reception. It was a great couple of days!
